Madge Scott , an Award and Prize Winning artist, began painting and drawing in 1997 when one of her children went missing. She found solace in her small daughters water color paint set when there was nothing else to do. She drew and painted from newspaper articles and anything colorful. Madge became fascinated with faces and practiced her drawing on anything she could get her hands on. People became interested in her work as she took her pencils and sketchbook everywhere she went, and even though she was selling her work she never took it seriously until 2005 when she was discovered by someone who prompted her to have a showing of her work. She showed 31 pieces of her work at the FRC Gallery in Hastings On Hudson, on October 28th and 29th and sold 16 pieces. Since then Madge has shown her work many times in Westchester and New York City. She has been doing commissioned work, folk art and also some spiritual pieces. She showed her work at the Consulate of Jamaica in August of 2007 and since then have shown in Libraries, Galleries, Town Halls, Universities, and at the Katonah Museum of Art two years ago and have conducted workshops at the Hudson River Museum. She has done several solo gallery shows and group shows in the New York area.
She is a member of the Rivertowns Arts Council and The Blue Door Gallery in Yonkers. A piece of her work was published a few years ago by the Hastings Historical Society (Images of America, Hastings on Hudson) and her work has been featured in newspapers and periodicals locally, New York City and Jamaica. Madge has been a judge for the local NAACP Act-SO competition for the past nine years and is actively involved in other voluntary work in the area; a part of Interfaith which is a volunteer organization.She’s involved with the Preservation Company in Peekskill, reaching out to communities with those in need by donating her time and works of art. Madge is also involved with “The Gifted Hands” volunteer group,volunteering her services when called upon She also teaches drawing and teaching at the Ashanti Studio at 145 Palisades Ave. Suite 318 E in Dobbs Ferry, NY. Over the years Madge has shown her work in many locations, Galerie Bonheur in St. Louis, Missouri, sold some of her works. Her work is sold and known globally.Each year she has several gallery shows and her studio is always opened to the public. Most recently in 2013, Madge has also shown her work in The Ossining Library Gallery, a piece of her work is in their permanent collection.Greenburgh Town Hall, Municipal Building in Hastings on Hudson has hosted her works over the years. Rockland Center For The Arts ,Fordham University, Long Island University ,RiverArts are among the places she has shown. her work. Madge’s work was featured in the City College of New York Alumni Magazine in February 2013; and her work is featured in an upcoming PBS Documentary, featuring the history of an African village and it’s people. Upcoming show will be at the Elmswood Playhouse in Nyack New York this month, November 2016; and will be a featured in their stage setting. Madge was presented with the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Humanitarian Award in January 2013 , is a motivational, spiritual writer and speaker and a prize winning artist many times around. Madge is inspired by her faith and her love of people. The sky is the limit for her.
